§ 2-309. Filing complaint; enforcement.

  • It is hereby made the duty of the animal control officer, or anyone having the authority of an animal control officer, including but not limited to law enforcement officers, to enforce the terms and provisions of this chapter. Pursuant to Charter Ordinance No. 2-2008, and other lawful authority, the animal control officer is authorized to issue citations to the owner of and/or impound any dog, cat or other animal found in violation of the terms of this chapter. The Chief of Police may appoint persons to be known as animal control officers, whose duties it shall be to assist in the enforcement of this article as defined by K.S.A. 12-4113(j) and to work under the immediate supervision and direction of the Police Department.

    Any person having personal knowledge of the violations of any of the provisions of this article may make a verified complaint of the facts showing a violation of this article before the Municipal Court Judge and upon the filing of such a complaint, the Municipal Court Judge may issue proper legal process to enforce the penalties provided herein
