§ 4-807. Same; fences, gates.

  • All outdoor swimming pools shall be completely enclosed by a fence with a minimum height of five-feet (5') as measured at the fence itself. All fence openings or points of entry into the pool area enclosure shall be equipped with gates and shall be a minimum of five-feet (5') as measured at the gate itself. The fence may be constructed of wire, wood, vinyl, wrought iron materials, or any other materials approved by city staff. In the event that wire is used for the fence to enclose the pool area, the fence shall be constructed of a minimum number eleven and one-half gauge woven wire mesh corrosion-resistant material. In the event the fence is constructed of wood, the wooden materials shall be of not less than one-half inch in thickness with spacing's of no greater than three inches in width. All gates shall be equipped with closing and latching devices capable of being locked with a padlock and the gate shall be locked with a padlock during the absence of the owners or tenants of the real property whereon the swimming pool is situated. All fence posts shall be decay or corrosion-resistant and shall be set in a concrete base at a depth of not less than two and one-half feet, and no farther than 10 feet apart.
