§ 6-104. City officers; general election.

  • City elections for Mayor and Council shall be non-partisan. The general election of City officers, when required, will be held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. In accordance with K.S.A. 25-205, and amendments thereto, any person may become a candidate for city office elected at large by having had filed on their behalf a nomination petition or a declaration of candidacy, accompanied by any fee required by law. For the position of Mayor, the nomination petition must be signed by not less than 50 qualified electors of the City of Lansing or not less than 1% of the ballots cast and counted at the last general city election, whichever is less. For the position of Councilmember, the nomination petition must be signed by not less than 50 qualified electors of the Ward or not less than 1% of the number of ballots cast in each specific Ward at the previous councilmember city election, whichever is less.
